Barcelona have registered three more Covid positive players which bring the tally to 10. Sergino Dest, Philippe Coutinho, and Ez Abde all have contracted the virus as confirmed by the club.
On Wednesday, Barcelona reported Ousmane Dembele, Gavi, and Samuel Umtiti’s tests. Meanwhile, Clement Lenglet, Jordi Alba, Dani Alves, and Alejandro Balde are all under self-quarantine.
Meaning, 10 players will be unavailable for Xavi’s selection for the forthcoming game against Mallorca on Sunday.
An official statement from Barcelona read: “Footballers Sergino Dest, Coutinho and Ez Abde have tested positive for COVID-19. The players are in good health and self-isolating at home.”
“The club has reported the cases to the relevant authorities.”
As per reports, more than half of La Liga clubs have positive cases of the virus, and the league resumes this weekend.
The Basque government has issued limitations on the spectator capacity on Tuesday. And Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, and Alaves will have up to 50 per cent of attendance in the stadiums.
Barcelona and Xavi will potentially have the worst start to the New Year with around 17 players missing the action on January 2.
