After months of widespread speculation, Ronald Araujo and Barcelona have finally agreed terms for a new contract.

Barcelona have announced an agreement to extend Ronald Araujo’s contract at the club for another three years until 2026.

The 23-year-old’s previous deal runs until June 2023. His representatives and the club had been in talks over a renewal for months. The delay in an agreement spurred talk of more lucrative offers for the player from Premier League clubs, namely Manchester United.

But while Araujo could’ve earned considerably more money in England, the Uruguayan’s desire to stay at Barcelona never wavered.

Now Barca have confirmed an agreement for a three-year contract extension. The deal includes a €1 billion release clause. Araujo will sign the deal on Friday during a ceremony at Camp Nou alongside the club’s president Joan Laporta.

The ceremony will take place at 13:30 (CEST) local time in Barcelona.

Araujo joined Barcelona in August 2018 from Uruguayan side Boston River for €4.70 million.

The Uruguay international has become an undisputed regular in the Blaugrana defense over the past two seasons. He has made 78 first-team appearances, scored six goals, and won the Copa del Rey last term.
