As Messi struggles to recapture his best form in France, rumors have linked him with a return to Barcelona.
‘Nothing is impossible’ regarding a return to Barcelona for Lionel Messi, according to Enric Masip.
Masip, who acts as an advisor to Barcelona president Joan Laporta, is the latest key figure at Camp Nou to leave the door open for Messi to return after the club’s manager Xavi Hernandez did so last week.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has largely struggled to hit his best form since joining Paris Saint-Germain on an initial two-year deal from Barcelona last summer.
Could Messi return?
Reports from last week claimed Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, had contacted Barcelona about a potential reunion, shortly after PSG’s last-16 Champions League exit against Real Madrid.
“Nothing is impossible, unlikely situations happen in life,” Masip told Cadena SER. “Xavi’s words were misunderstood. It wasn’t a nod, as such.
“It was probably one of the most beautiful periods [for the club], but things went the way they did and he chose a project in Paris. What may have seemed to be collapsing here in Barcelona, the team has survived and has worked well.”
When do Barca return to action?
The Blaugrana report back to action on April 3 to take on Sevilla in La Liga after the international break.
Given their five-match winning run in La Liga, on top of home advantage, Barcelona are favorites for all three points. At the time of writing, Bet365 has priced a Barca win at 1.53. This suggests they have a 65% chance of victory.
