Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang broke the deadlock in today’s Community Shield clash between the Gunners and Premeir League winners Liverpool.
The Gabon international opened his account for the 2020-21 campaign and paid tribute with his celebration to Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who lost his battle with colon cancer this morning.
The Reds equalized through Takumi Minamino to take the game to penalties, but Arsenal won the trophy after the shootout, with Aubameyang netting the decisive penalty kick.
It was the Gunners’ 16th Community Shield victory and Mikel Arteta’s second honor as a manager.
With this game the new season in English football is officially open, while Arsenal will also take part in the Premier League opener on September 12, as they visit London rivals Fulham at 13:30 (CET).
Chadwick Boseman was diagnosed with cancer four years ago. In the meantime, he played the lead role in Black Panther (2018), a movie that won three Oscars last year. He was 43 years old.
