After months of speculations and negotiations, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finally signed a long-term contract extension with Arsenal until 2023.

It’s no secret at Arsenal’s biggest task was to convince Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that they could help him achieve his dreams. Until they reached the FA Cup final, he was prettymuch convinced he had to leave the Gunners in order to win titles. However, things took a drastic turn for the better in the last couple of months.

Arsenal managed to convince the star striker that his future was brighter if he remained with them. After several attempts, the North London club was able to convince him to ‘sign da thing’. This is how he announced his decision, through a live streaming that had all the Arsenal fans beaming at the decision.

Aubameyang staying with the Gunners secures them a top-class player in order to aspire for greater things this season. The Premier League will hands down bring us the most entertainment out of all the major leagues in European football.

Contract details.

With this new deal, the Gabon star ties his future to the club until June of 2023. At 31 years old, this is the last big contract he will ever sign as a professional.

The ‘Gooner’ family will enjoy the last elite years from this amazing player at Emirates Stadium. This deal makes Aubameyang the highest paid player at the club with a €275k weekly contract, which surpasses Mesut Özil’s €250k.

Aubameyang revealed his reasoning behind the decision on the club’s official website: “Signing for this special club was never in doubt,” Auba stated.

“It’s thanks to our fans, my team-mates, my family and everybody at this club that I feel like I belong here. I believe in Arsenal. We can achieve big things together. We have something exciting here and I believe the best is to come for Arsenal.”

Arteta’s role was key to convince Aubameyang.

There is also no doubt that Mikel Arteta was a key figure in the striker’s decision. Having such a top manager at the helm was the deciding factor.

Mikel spoke about Aubameyang’s importance to the club: “It was important for Pierre-Emerick to stay with us.  He’s a superb player with an incredible mentality. Being the player to have taken the least amount of time to reach 50 goals with this club tells you everything you need to know about him and his way of working.

“He’s an important leader for the team and a big part of what we’re building.  He wants to be up there with the best players in the world and leave his mark. He can achieve that here.”
