Atletico Madrid had a chance to maintain their impressive lead over Barcelona and Real Madrid against Celta de Vigo this evening. Metropolitano Stadium was the place where Diego Simeone’s squad wanted to get another three points. But the core players within the squad were pretty much intact for this confrontation against Eduardo Coudet’s squad. Celta tends to grow as a team when they face title contenders, today was no different. The first half was wild with Santi Mina opening the scoreboard and Luis Suarez equalizing it right before half-time. We had another exciting 45 minutes on our hands as both teams were ready for the challenge.

Right after the break, Luis Suarez got Atletico’s second goal and the game appeared to end on the Colchoneros’ side. These types of matches tend to usually finish with Simeone’s boys defending pretty well and not allowing more goals. But ‘Chacho’ Coudet had an ace under his sleeve.
His substitutions were instrumental for Celta’s late equalizer. Solari set Ferreyra up for a late goal that prevented Atletico from getting those three points. Although they still have a big advantage at the top, losing points like this must be a cause of concern for Diego Simeone.
