Ahead of the busiest two weeks in European football, Atletico Madrid just announced two key players who tested positive for Covid-19.

Atletico Madrid has a new setback after two key players tested positive for Covid-19. The Spanish club made the announcement through their official website on Monday afternoon. After the scheduled PCR tests results of the day came through, the club found the positive results of these two midfielders. We are talking about Hector Herrera and Thomas Lemar. The club made the following statement: “Hector Herrera and Thomas Lemar have tested positive for Covid-19.

“Both players are isolating at home, in compliance with the health authorities’ guidelines and LaLiga protocols. Héctor Herrera and Thomas Lemar underwent antigen tests on Monday morning ahead of our fixture against Celta, in accordance with the LaLiga protocol. Both players tested positive for COVID-19. They later underwent PCR tests, which confirmed the results. The Mexican and the Frenchman are isolating at home, in compliance with the health authorities’ guidelines and LaLiga protocols.”

Which games will they miss?

Ahead of the upcoming busy week for Atletico Madrid, these two players are set to miss a couple of matches. Both of them are definitely missing today’s match against Celta de Vigo but they have an important two weeks ahead. Next weekend, they miss the game against Granada in La Liga. After that, Atletico has a pending midweek La Liga match against Levante and they play the same team a few days later.

Both are La Liga matches. Herrera and Lemar are expected to miss all four games but Diego Simeone has hopes for the Champions League first leg against Chelsea. As we all know, Covid-19 takes between 10 and 15 days to leave the body but none of these players can go back to action if they don’t get a negative PCR test. By the time they play Chelsea, 15 days will pass and they should be available to play. Unless something strange happens, they will both be available to play the Blues.
