Aston Villa have been dealt a major blow following news that Jack Grealish has suffered a setback and will be out for another couple weeks.
Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish is expected to be out for another two weeks after suffering a setback in his comeback from injury.
The midfielder has missed seven Premier League games with a shin problem, as well as England’s recent World Cup qualifying matches.
However, Villa boss Dean Smith insists the recurring injury for his captain is a not a “long-term” problem.
Grealish recently made a return to training and it was hoped that he would feature against Liverpool on Sunday.
However, the 25-year-old has now suffered a setback ahead of the meeting with the reigning champions and finds himself back in the treatment room.
Villa boss Smith said to the club’s website regarding an update on Grealish: “Jack had a setback obviously last week. Myself and Jack were probably a little too optimistic trying to get him back.
“He wanted to be back for the Tottenham game (March 21) and we tried to push him for the Fulham game but he’s had a setback which will probably keep him out for a few more weeks. We need to de-load him.
“The good news is is that it’s not a long-term injury. He’s mostly quite calm and we know he’ll be back before the end of the season. It is what it is.”
It puts a dent in Aston Villa’s huge quest for an European spot next season. For Grealish, it is a major blow for the midfielder as this could now limit his chances of getting fit in time to make Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros.
