The Blues legend has named the player who has become a ‘vital’ part of Tuchel’s set-up at Stamford Bridge.

Ashley Cole rates Mason Mount as Thomas Tuchel’s most important Chelsea player and believes the midfielder is on par with the world’s best footballers.

Despite being omitted from Tuchel’s first match in a goalless draw with Wolves in January, Mount has steadily won over the Chelsea manager and is now an ever-present figure in the line-up.

The 22-year-old, a Blues academy graduate, proved his class again on Saturday to help Chelsea beat Fulham 2-0.

His assist for Kai Havertz’s opening goal was simply superb, leaving Tuchel to label him as ‘the full package, mentally, in terms of talent and physically’.

“He’s a humble boy, a Chelsea fan, living the dream,” Cole said about Mount on Sky Sports.

“But within that, he wants to work hard, he wants to improve, he wants to get better, he wants to score goals, he wants to run for his team.

“He shows that enthusiasm day in, day out. I think that’s what makes him, for me, one of the top players in world football right now, definitely in the Premier League.

“Of course, he’s vital for Chelsea.”

The former Blues full-back, who was speaking alongside ex-Fulham manager Chris Coleman, then outlined how Mount is vital.

Quizzed on whether the 22-year-old is already Tuchel’s most important star, Cole answered: “Yes. He is pivotal in the way they want to press, the way they want to get after the ball.

“The way he can keep the ball for his team, change the speed of attacks, his understanding of being able to get in between lines, turn, and then drive.

“He’s vital for this Chelsea team.”
