Ashley Cole has backed Chelsea to complete the signing of the Bayer Leverkusen prodigy Kai Havertz by the end of the summer.

Havertz is Chelsea’s priority target for the summer after the arrivals of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Widely-regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, the 20-year-old forward has been one of the Bundesliga’s headline performers over the past few years.

His blistering showings at the BayArena have earned him high acclaims from Frank Lampard, who is now keen to dish out €100million to bring the German to Stamford Bridge.

Former Chelsea left-back, who currently operates as an academy coach in west London, has encouraged his former teammate to pursue a deal for Havertz.

“Frank has had a brilliant first season and added two players, and maybe Havertz as well,” the Englishman said, as relayed by the Metro.

“Our attacking threat is amazing, and the fans will be happy.

“Hopefully, they can add Havertz to make their attacking threat even more potent. It is a young squad, with young players who have top quality and have played in top leagues being added.

“It’s good to see them at Chelsea, and hopefully, they can quickly integrate into the team ahead of next season.”

Havertz was going from strength to strength in 2019/20, racking up 18 goals and nine assists in all competitions to finish the season as Leverkusen’s top-scorer.

Die Werkself are still hopeful they can keep their starlet at home at least for one season, but the chances of the youngster joining Chelsea in the summer are rapidly growing.
