Mikel Arteta believes tiredness had a huge role to play in his side’s defeat at home in their most recent Premier League outing.

Arsenal were the dominant side for the better part of Sunday’s match but had nothing to show for it after the full-time whistle.

The North London side had more possession of the ball, made more passes, and attempted twice as many shots as their opponents but were found on the wrong end of the 1-0 scoreline against Leicester City.

It was none other than last season’s Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy who, after entering the pitch at the hour mark, struck the match-winner in the final ten minutes.

Last night marked the first time in the Premier League history that the Foxes beat the Gunners away from home.

As for the home side, who have made considerable progress with their former captain at the helm, suffered a second defeat in succession and missed the chance to jump to the top half of the league table.

“I think fatigue had a say there as well,” Mikel Arteta responded when asked to justify his side’s lackluster display, as per Goal.

“We didn’t look as sharp on the ball. We didn’t have much purpose on the ball.  It’s an aspect we have to improve on. We didn’t manage to have enough continuity in our play, we didn’t put the ball as often as we could in the box.

“It’s a very harsh result for us considering what happened in the game.”
