The Real Madrid loanee seems to have adjusted well to life in north London as he put in another praise-worthy performance on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta insists Martin Odegaard has been “really influential” for Arsenal as he hails the player’s leadership qualities.

Odegaard joined Arsenal on a season-long loan deal in January in search of regular game time. He was deprived of consistent minutes on the pitch under Zinedine Zidane, who had limited him to just five starts in all competitions in the first half of the season.

A constant bright spark in his new team, Odegaard has been central to Arsenal’s resurgence in 2021.

The Norwegian playmaker was voted the man of the match in his side’s 3-3 stalemate against West Ham on Sunday. He created four key chances, put seven passes into the box from open play, and was the catalyst behind the stunning comeback.

Asked whether Odegaard is a leader in the team, Arteta told Arsenal.com: “He is showing that I think from week one.

“The way he steps on that pitch and always wants the ball, the way he commands the pressing, he’s been really influential.

“I think we have all been surprised because he looks really shy and humble, but when he steps in that pitch he’s a real character and he loves to play football.”
