The young England international did not emerge from the tunnel after the break during the Gunners’ decisive match against their local rivals.

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka was withdrawn during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham due to a hamstring injury.

Martin Odegaard opened his Premier League goalscoring account while Alexandre Lacazette also got on the scoresheet as Arsenal came from behind to beat Tottenham for the first time in five matches.

Saka started the match but could only last for the opening 45 minutes as he was replaced by Nicolas Pepe at half time.

The 29-year-old had taken a few rough challenges from the visitors, which gave rise to fears that his withdrawal wasn’t a tactical change.

“No, no it was an injury,” confirmed Arteta after the match, via Football London. “We don’t know. He was feeling his hamstring, so we will monitor that.

Arteta added on the result: “Hopefully, it will increase the level of confidence of the team and the belief that we can play really well against any opponent, we can beat big teams as well and just maintain everybody together with a big belief.

“We know we have to put four or five wins together in a row to give ourselves any chance of looking up in the table, but we are ready for a fight.”
