Mikel Arteta praised Arsenal’s mentality against Tottenham and believes his side deserved all three points.

Mikel Arteta loved the display from his Arsenal side as the Gunners came from behind to seal a 2-1 win over Tottenham.

Despite going down after a beautiful strike by Erik Lamela, Arsenal were the better side for most of the game and deservedly got an equalizer through Martin Odegaard.

The game turned around when Alexandre Lacazette was brought down in the area and scored the resulting penalty. Erik Lamela then took a red card after another reckless tackle.

Surprisingly, Spurs grew better into the game after the red card, and Arteta hailed his side’s mentality to hold on to their lead.

“We were the better side, we were really dominant, really confident for big periods, apart from the last ten minutes, I think we were outstanding, “ he said to the club’s website.

“To create the number of situations and chances that we created, to be as aggressive as we were to regain the ball, to play with a personality that we showed, it was great.”

Speaking on a nervy ending to the game, Arteta added: “The way we managed the game in the last ten minutes with an extra player on the pitch was really poor,” Mikel added. “We put ourselves in big trouble and maybe we should have conceded a goal. So it’s something to improve and in Europe if we do that, we are out.”

“Generally though I’m really pleased. I’m so proud of the players, the way they played, the spirit they are showing and the energy that I sense when they are playing together. It’s a shame that today we didn’t have our fans here with us, but hopefully they can enjoy it at home.”

With the win, Arteta has now beaten every top six manager he has faced since he became Arsenal manager.
