Despite typically playing out wide on the right wing, Bukayo Saka switched over to the left at times during Arsenal’s last game.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta switched Bukayo Saka to the left wing against Sheffield United due to the set-up of the opposition team.

This tactical switch paid off handsomely as the Gunners secured a commanding 5-0 victory on Saturday. Eddie Nketiah was the star of the show, netting a hat-trick. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Fabio Vieira also found the back of the net.

Saka, who usually plays on the right, had a quiet game, but still made a significant impact. From his new spot on the left, he delivered a crucial assist from a corner for Nketiah’s second goal.

“There were certain behaviors of the opponent that could allow certain spaces,” Arteta explained.

“In relation to how the midfielders were behaving with our attacking midfielders. He did read that very well in certain moments.

“The timing sometimes was better than other times but it was another way to attack certain spaces that we believe were vulnerable to it.”

Saka is expected to be rested when Arsenal face West Ham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
