The Norwegian youngster scored his first goal for Arsenal to help bag a crucial Europa League win over Olympiacos.

Martin Odegaard helps improve Arsenal in the attack with his continuity on the ball and clever eye for finding space, says Mikel Arteta.

The 22-year-old midfielder, on loan from Real Madrid, scored his first Gunners goal in Thursday’s 3-1 Europa League win over Olympiacos with a powerful long-range strike.

It was Odegaard’s first goal in club football since December 2019 and left Arteta suitably impressed afterward.

“He helps us to do the processes much better,” the Arsenal manager told the club’s website. “He helps us as a team because he gives us a lot of continuity on the ball.

“He’s really intelligent to find the spaces, he attracts a lot of opponents. We ask him to score goals, to arrive in the box.

“Today, he scored a brilliant goal and his contribution was really important for the team.”

Gabriel and Mohamed Elneny scored two late goals to seal victory after a defensive howler from Bernd Leno and Dani Ceballos allowed Youssef El-Arabi to equalize for Olympiacos.

The 3-1 triumph in Athens has left Arsenal with a commanding lead ahead of next week’s return leg at home in their Europa League last-16 tie.
