Martin Odegaard has expressed his delight after opening his goal-scoring account for Arsenal against Olympiacos on Thursday.

Martin Odegaard grabbed his first goal for Arsenal in style with a long-range effort against Olympiacos on Thursday night.

The Gunners ran out 3-1 winners against Olympiacos in the first leg of their round of 16 Europa League tie. The Real Madrid loanee, Gabriel and Mohamed Elneny grabbed the goals for Mikel Arteta’s side.

After starting the game rather poorly, Odegaard made up for it all with a stunning strike that put Arsenal in the lead at half time.

The 22-year-old says he has settled well at the club due to the healthy team spirit in the dressing room.

“It was a great moment” Odegaard told Arsenal.com.

“I was eager to get on the scoresheet and I didn’t get any goals yet, so it was a good moment for me and also a crucial moment in the game to get a goal away from home and take the lead into half-time. It was a big moment for me personally and also for the team.”

“I think we did really good, except for the goal we conceded I thought we were solid all the way. We dominated the game, we created a lot of chances but we gave away some easy balls. That we have to work on, but otherwise, I think it was a great game and a well-deserved 3-1 win.”

“I think it shows the character in the team and the team spirit we have now. Players are coming on from the bench, changing games and scoring goals and I think it shows the team spirit and it shows the quality that we have in the team. Everyone is ready to participate and it was a big team win.”

Arsenal were knocked out of the Europa League by Olympiacos last season but look firmly poised to advance past the Greek side this time around. Despite, three away goals, Odegaard says the tie is far from over.

“It is just half time. We have to keep going. We have a big game on Saturday and then have to be ready for next Thursday.”

“It is very important, we are not where we want to be in the league so this is very important for us and a chance to get Champions League football next year.”
