Mikel Arteta assures efforts are being made at Arsenal to close transfers before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal seem set to miss out on both Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey, understood to be their priority targets of this summer, with the transfer window edging closer to Monday’s deadline.

Atletico Madrid are unwilling to entertain bids less than the release clause value of €50 million for Partey, a price Arsenal have been reluctant to pay.

The Gunners also reportedly made several attempts to bring Olympique Lyon’s asking price of €60 million for Aouar, prompting the French side to decide against selling the midfielder at all.

There has been a growing sense of frustration among the fans as of late due to a lack of transfer activity from the club.

Mikel Arteta attempts to provide reassurances to the supporters with his latest comments as he insists Arsenal are doing the ‘maximum’ to bring in new players.

“I don’t know,” he said, when asked about the possibility of new signings. “What I can guarantee is that we are doing our maximum,” Arteta told, via Goal.

“Whether we are going to achieve it or not I don’t know.

“I cannot discuss the players that we want, but we recognize certain positions that we believe we are short – first of all, numbers and then adding different qualities to complement each other. This is what we are trying to do.”
