As per a report, Arsenal could make a late turn to Chelsea’s Jorginho if they fail to make a breakthrough in their pursuit of Houssem Aouar.

Arsenal remain strongly interested in Lyon star Houssem Aouar but there is an issue of time if they are to complete the deal.

The Gunners have been in talks with Lyon for the past few weeks regarding their prized asset but a breakthrough is yet to be found.

Lyon want around €50-60m for Aouar and Arsenal have so far offered only €35m; a bid which was immediately rejected by the Ligue 1 side.

With time running out to complete such a deal, the Gunners might have to turn somewhere else if they can’t see the move over the line.

As per ESPN’s Julien Laurens, Arsenal could turn to Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as a late alternative for Aouar.

The Italy international has seen a roller-coaster ride at Stamford Bridge since his arrival in 2018.

Under Frank Lampard, he has only featured sparingly for the Blues since lockdown and that led to uncertainty over his future. Jorginho has started two games for Chelsea this season but his future at the club remains in doubt.

However, recent comments from Joas Santos, Jorginho’s agent, insists the links to Arsenal are only rumors.

“Jorginho still has a three-year contract with Chelsea, this one plus two more,” he said as quoted by the Daily Star.

“I heard a lot about Arsenal and PSG in the last few days, but the reality is that so far no official offer has arrived for the player.

“At the moment, therefore, I can say that it is only rumors.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta recently gave an update on the club’s pursuit of Aouar. We will know more about the deal in the coming hours for sure.
