Mikel Arteta has grown confident of tying Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to a new contract at the Emirates following another triumphant evening.

Aubameyang once again proved decisive for Arsenal, as the Gunners outscored Liverpool after a penalty shoot-out to win the Community Shield on Saturday.

The Gabonese forward drilled a thunderous strike past Allison Becker to put his side in front before Takumi Minamino brought the tie to penalties.

Arsenal eventually came out on top to lift their second trophy in less than 30 days, sending some encouraging signals to both fans and the 31-year-old skipper.

The Londoners have been working hard to convince Aubameyang to pledge his long-term future to the Emirates.

Although many of their previous attempts fell flat, Mikel Arteta’s trophy-laden tenure may change things.

Thrilled after having beaten the new-found Premier League supreme force, the Spanish manager has hailed his standout performer’s display.

“I think the move from the team [for Aubameyang’s goal] was really, really good, and he put the ball, all the time, where it belongs, which is the back of the net,” Arteta said, as relayed by the talkSPORT.

“As well the way he took the last penalty. He wanted to take the last one, and he took it really well – and another trophy for Arsenal.

“I’m delighted with his performance with and without the ball as well.”

Arteta has also given his verdict on Aubameyang’s current contractual status in north London.

“We are going to see… today we will just take the trophy, and that is it.

“I keep saying the same thing. I try to do my job, which is to convince him that he is in the right place; that he has the environment here to produce the moments like he’s done today, and he’s done here three weeks ago.

“I am very positive that he’s going to sign, but a lot of time there’s a lot of things involved in a contract deal, and we are trying to show him.”

Aubameyang has entered the final year of his contract at Arsenal.

As such, he’s become a target for a host of Europe’s top clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Milan.

Arguably one of the most prolific strikers of his generation, the former Borussia Dortmund star now has 71 goals in 110 appearances under his belt since arriving from the Bundesliga in January 2018.
