Mikel Arteta has been able to sense the positivity in the Arsenal camp sparked by the late arrival of a certain Ghanaian midfielder.
Arsenal waited until the very final moments of the summer transfer window to seal the deal for a player who was understood to be their priority target.
The Gunners paid the €50 million release clause of Thomas Partey on the deadline day, a time when many had given up hopes on his signature.
It is understood that they were hesitant to pay that figure initially and were trying to negotiate his price down. Atletico Madrid also remained resolute on not to reduce their valuation of the defensive-midfielder, which is what prompted the London-based outfit to act decisively.
Much excitement has been initiated among the Arsenal faithful due to the high-profile signing. It is expected that Partey would add stability and quality, some things that have been lacking lately, in the middle of the park at Emirates.
“There is a buzz around the place, the fans are really happy,” said Mikel Arteta in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League match-up against Manchester City.
“I’ve seen some positive reactions after we brought him, it’s the same with the team, same with the staff.
“He’s a player we have rated for a long time and we have managed to bring him. I think he’s going to be a really important addition to the team.”
