Ben White is the latest player to enter Arsenal’s top 10 list of record transfers following his arrival from Brighton.
Ben White has moved into third place in Arsenal’s most expensive transfers in history following his £50 million (€58m) move from Brighton.
The Gunners confirmed White’s arrival on a long-term deal, believed to be until 2026, on Friday evening. He is the club’s third summer signing after left-back Nuno Tavares and midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga. The three players have cost a combined total of €84m.
Out of the trio, White will be under the most pressure. The 23-year-old had a promising first season in the Premier League with Brighton, but 2021/22 will be a distinct challenge altogether. Not only must he help Arsenal reclaim a top-four spot, but he has to prove why the club spent so much on him in the first place.
But considering Transfermarkt’s list of Arsenal’s most expensive signings, the Gunners have often done ok in big-money deals.
The only real questionable transfers have been Nicolas Pepe, Shkodran Mustafi, Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Pepe, the club’s record signing, has arguably struggled to live up to expectations since his €80m arrival from Lille. But to be fair, the winger showed promise at the end of last season. He could shut his doubters down if he continues to deliver throughout the course of the 2021/22 campaign.
Mustafi, meanwhile, never lived up to his €41m transfer from Valencia. The same could be said for Mkhitaryan following his move from Manchester United as part of a swap for Alexis Sanchez in January 2018.
