Arsenal star Nicolas Pepe had a strong end to last season and Calum Chambers is expecting more of the same in 2021/22.
Calum Chambers has backed Arsenal teammate Nicolas Pepe to show his best form in the 2021/22 campaign.
Pepe scored five goals in Arsenal’s last three Premier League games of the season to ensure Mikel Arteta’s side finished on a high note by bagging three successive victories.
Nobody in the Gunners squad could match the Ivorian’s 21 goal contributions across all competitions (16 goals, 5 assists) either. Although Alexandre Lacazette was a close second on 20 goal contributions (17 goals, 3 assists).
It was a welcome turnaround for Pepe, who has struggled to live up to his club-record fee of €80 million.
When quizzed if Arsenal fans can expect the best of Pepe for next season, Chambers replied: “Yes”
“I think he [Pepe] is on good form at the minute and he’s been playing really well and scoring good goals and his confidence is high,” continued the Gunners defender as per the Standard.
“We’ve seen that all along and we’ve known the quality that he’s had and it’s just really nice to see him show everyone else what he can do.
“He was covering me defensively [against Brighton], which is amazing. I think he’s improved a lot, he’s a great player and we’ve seen it from the start in the first day of training, we’ve seen his quality, and I think now he’s really starting to show everyone what he can do.
“We’re all delighted for him.”
