The Gunners are still a long way behind the top dogs of English football and will need to invest to change that, says Freddie Ljungberg.

Arsenal spent close to €100 million during the previous transfer window, bringing in the likes of Thomas Partey, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Willian.

The Gunners broke the bank to sign Nicolas Pepe in the summer of 2019, shedding out a reported €80 million to make him the club’s record signing.

While the team looks solid on paper with plenty of international talent at their disposal, they have struggled to perform at the desired levels.

Inconsistency has left Mikel Arteta’s men in the bottom half of the Premier League table with a meager 13 points collected after nine matches.

Arteta’s arrival has indeed brought positive changes at the Emirates, but they still stand a long way from the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool and contending for major silverware.

A man who spent considerable time in north London, as a player and coach, has provided a solution to bridge that gap as he urges Arsenal to reinforce their squad in the upcoming transfer window.

“If you look at it in the last couple of years, I think they’ve got good players there, but of course they need to invest in their squad. It’s obvious for everyone to see,” Freddie Ljungberg told Sky Sports

“I think they did some good business in the center-back position this summer, but if you look at the big clubs – City or Liverpool – they have top, top players in certain positions.”
