Pressure is increasing on the Spaniard, who hasn’t done anything of significance ever since leading the Gunners to FA Cup glory in his debut season.

Arsenal should sack Mikel Arteta and appoint Antonio Conte in order to “get back to the good times”, says former Tottenham striker Darren Bent.

Arsenal made a woeful start to the 2021-22 English top-flight campaign, losing 2-0 to newcomers Brentford.

The Gunners were expected to come into the new season reenergized after they were deplorable throughout 2020-21 but early signs indicate things haven’t changed.

It will likely only get worse for the London side in their next two league fixtures as they face Champions League & UEFA Super Cup titleholders Chelsea and defending Premier League champions Manchester City.

“Well if you want to get back to the good times then you sack him and you bring in someone like Conte,” Bent told on talkSPORT.

“You’d have to say right now, no [Arteta is not the right man] because Arsenal are declining. They’re spending a lot of money on bringing in players and we seem to be going backwards.

“I think Conte, different kettle of fish. If they can get someone like Conte’s level. Yeah [sack Arteta], get Conte.

“But would Conte come? If they’ve got an inkling that they can sign Conte, sack Arteta.”
