Arsenal have reportedly made their decision on Brazilian defender David Luiz regarding a contract extension.

David Luiz is in line to earn a fresh one-year extension to his Arsenal contract as a reward for his positive influence at the club.

The Brazilian defender was handed an extra 12 months on his deal in the summer, and many believed he would move on at the end of this season.

As per The Independent, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been impressed with the impact Luiz has had on the younger members of the squad. The Gunners boss is now keen for the defender to stick around.

The 33-year-old is considered a great character in the dressing room and has remained part of Arteta’s plans on the field this season.

Indeed, Luiz has been prone to mistakes – and lots of them. His recent sending off against Wolves is one such example. However, the Brazilian is also a much-needed source of experience.

Arsenal do not have too many of those in their current crop, and Arteta is not keen on losing Luiz for nothing at a time when funds for new arrivals are tight.

He has already featured 20 times for Arsenal this season and featured in the Gunners’ most recent 4-2 win over Leeds on Sunday.
