The Gunners have suffered greatly in recent times, with Ozil’s absence leaving Ljungberg and everyone else baffled.

Freddie Ljungberg has become the latest high-profile figure to question Mikel Arteta’s decision to leave Mesut Ozil out of the Arsenal squad.

The German is out of the club’s Premier League and Europa League squads. And with less than a year left on his contract, this snub has effectively ended his time as a Gunner unless the manager reconsiders.

Rumors have emerged this week claiming Ozil could leave before his lucrative contract expires at the end of the season by joining Turkish giants Fenerbahce in January.

But with Arsenal struggling for goals and in desperate need of some creativity in the middle of the park, Ljungberg has warned Arteta there are not ‘many better in the world’ than Ozil.

“When you have a player like that, and I don’t say he should play every single week, but when you have possession and you need to find that cute pass, I don’t think there are any better players than Mesut doing that,” the former Arsenal midfielder and assistant coach told Sky Sports.

“Of course you lose a bit defensively, but it’s a decision they’ve made. I don’t know why the decision’s been made and he’s outside the 25-man squad, so they can’t use him.

“But for those things, I don’t think there are many better in the world.”
