Nicolas Pepe is at an uncertain period of his Arsenal career and club hero Kevin Campbell has his say on the player’s future at the club.
Arsenal star Kevin Campbell remains convinced that Nicolas Pepe remains a big part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
The Ivorian forward has seen an inconsistent start to the 2020/21 season. As it stands, he is below Willian in the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.
Despite arriving for £72m last season from Lille and becoming the club’s most expensive player, Pepe has failed to hit the heights.
Last season, he bagged just five goals in the Premier League and this term he has netted one.
His latest showing in the league saw him sent off for head-butting Leeds United’s Ezgjan Alioski at Elland Road. It came just days after complaining about a lack of chances.
At the moment, recent reports are even claiming that the Gunners could consider selling Pepe if the right offer comes in.
Kevin Campbell begs to differ and sees the Ivorian as a key player under Arteta regardless.
He told Football Insider: “I do not think they made an error in his signing, not at all.”
“Mikel Arteta wants to work with him. I think he has a big future at the club because he is a very talented player.”
“Pepe has done some things that were not quite right, one of them being the sending off at Leeds.”
“He is suffering right now because he cannot help the team in the Premier League but he will come back better.”
“With a bit of luck, everything will be fine when he does return.”
