Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed Arsenal have made no offer for Houssem Aouar and suggested they won’t make one either.

Aouar’s reputation has soared in recent times, with many hailing the Lyon star as one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe. Therefore, Arsenal and several other clubs have been linked with moves.

The 22-year-old would prove a valuable addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad. Especially regarding his craft and class, along with the ability to bounce in counter-attacking moves.

Time is not on Arsenal’s side to sign Aouar, however, as the transfer deadline is on October 5. There have been no bids either, with Lyon sporting director Juninho confirming that to be the case earlier this week.

Of course, Arteta has several reasons for holding back on a final decision. The most likely one holding him back is a restricted transfer budget along with the returns of Dani Ceballos and Mohamed Elneny.

But while the Gunners boss has confirmed he’s still seeking reinforcements, he has refused to dwell on the transfer speculation.

Now Aulas has spoken out on Arteta’s interest in Aouar by confirming Lyon are yet to receive any offers in the region of their reported asking price of €48m.

Quizzed on whether there is still hope of a move to the Emirates for Aouar, Aulas told journalist Chris Wheatley: “No I don’t think so, no offer yet.

“It seems that Arsenal don’t want to, or can’t invest the price for Houssem, who is our best player.”

Aouar was suspended for Lyon’s goalless stalemate against Nimes at home on Friday because of a suspension.
