Dani Alves opens up on his struggles in Italy, suggesting that the new environment proved hard to adapt to after eight years in Spain.

After having firmly cemented his status as arguably the best in the world in his position, Dani Alves jumped ships from FC Barcelona to Juventus in the summer of 2016.

The right-back led the Bianconeri to a domestic double of Serie A and Coppa Italia in his first season at the club.

It could even have been a historic treble as Juve made it up to the finals of the 2017 Champions League final, only to suffer a heavy 4-1 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid.

Despite the success, the Brazilian called time on his stint at Allianz Arena after just one season at joined Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract.

He enjoyed another impressive spell in Paris, winning Ligue 1 twice, Coupe de France, and Coupe de la Ligue across two seasons.

The Sao Paulo defender has played in many clubs across Europe in his almost two-decade-long career so far and insists the time he spent in Italy was the most unmemorable of all.

Alves told Catalan radio station RAC 1: “All the players who leave Barcelona regret it, one hundred percent. But either you accept it or you become bitter all your life.

“The year I spent at Juventus was the worst of my career because. I wanted that to be like in Barcelona and it wasn’t. I had to reinvent myself and pull resilience.”
