Juan Sebastian Veron believes Alexis Sanchez ‘belongs’ in Italy after ending his Manchester United nightmare and hailed the Chilean’s talent.

Alexis Sanchez recently put pen-to-paper on a permanent three-year contract with Inter Milan following a season on loan at the San Siro.

The 31-year-old, who took a small pay-off from Manchester United in return for the club waiving the remaining two years of his previous deal, has slowly rediscovered his best form in Italy after struggling at Old Trafford.

It didn’t get off to a smooth start, but Alexis found some of his old spark in the post-lockdown period. He helped Inter secure a respectable second-place finish in the Serie A and reach the Europa League final.

Now fellow South American Veron, who had a relatively difficult spell himself at United between 2001 and 2003 after impressing for Lazio, is pleased to see the ex-Arsenal star back to his sublime best.

“I watched Sanchez play here [at Inter], he’s got enormous talent and is fantastic for Chile,” said the Argentine, as reported on Goal, while speaking to reporters at the 2020 Enel Cup.

“Personally, I had some ups and downs at Manchester United, but I was at my best in Italy.

“I believe a player really finds he belongs in one league more than another. I know I did and I think that’s true of Alexis Sanchez too.

“He is a great representative not just of Chile, but also all of South American football.”
