A new Los Blancos signing is hoping to link up on the pitch with one of their most experienced and key players of recent years.
David Alaba has expressed his desire to play alongside “wonderful defender” Raphael Varane at Real Madrid.
Alaba, who committed to a five-year deal with the La Liga giants after joining them on a free transfer earlier this summer, was official unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Wednesday.
Varane, meanwhile, has been a reliable servant to the club for a decade now, having led them to multiple La Liga and Champions League titles, among other major silverware.
However, the two players might not get to play together next season as the Frenchman is expected to leave the Spanish capital this summer. Varane is heavily linked with Manchester United amid reports he wants to experience Premier League football and, just like his new teammate, is in search of a fresh challenge.
“Of course I would love to play with Varane,” Alaba said during his first press conference as a Real Madrid player, reports ESPN.
“For many years he has played excellent football and not just now. He is a wonderful defender and has great qualities.”
