The Italian manager worked briefly with the versatile Austrian at Bayern Munich and they’re reunited at Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti is expecting “complete player” David Alaba to hit the ground running in his debut season at Real Madrid.

Alaba, in the hope of pursuing a new challenge, ended his over decade-long and distinguished Bayern Munich career after deciding against renewing his contract with the club.

The 29-year-old had offers from multiple clubs on his table but opted to join Real Madrid – a club “at the top of his list of priorities” in his own words.

It is expected the Austria international will draft straight into the Los Blancos backline next season, especially with Sergio Ramos gone and Raphael Varane‘s future looking increasingly uncertain. Also, his versatility will make it easier for him to get into the starting XI, with the player capable of operating as a center-back, left-back, and even as a midfielder.

“Alaba is a complete player, with a lot of quality and tactically intelligent in defence,” said Ancelotti, reports Marca.

“I put him at centre-back in the last games [at Bayern Munich], [but] sometimes he plays in midfield for Austria [and] he can also play on the left [side of defence].

“He is a complete player who is going to do very well this season.”
