A major shift just occurred in a leading European club association as Nasser Al-Khelaifi replaces Andrea Agnelli in his role.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi just replaced Andrea Agnelli in a major role in European football at a club level. After the Super League events unfolded, the European Club Association just had the Juventus CEO step down as the institution’s chairman. The man who is set to take his place is Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is PSG’s chairman as well.
During all the plans for the European Super League, the French giants maintained their position away from this initiative. It was the right call for Nasser as he got on UEFA’s good graces in the midst of all the chaos. After Agnelli resigned from his position, the ECA made the announcement as the PSG chairman gracefully accepted his new role.
Nasser feels honored for the opportunity.
“I am honored and humbled to have been appointed by my fellow ECA Executive Board Members as Chairman,” he said in a statement via Goal. “The leadership, integrity and togetherness of our organization has never been more required than at this pivotal moment in European football. I will provide my unconditional commitment to the entire football community: that means to all ECA Member Clubs from every European nation, and to the fans and communities they represent.
“I, alongside all my fellow ECA Board Members and Clubs, am looking to reinforce ECA in its role as the legitimate and singular voice of Europe’s clubs. Our game, adored by generations of supporters, will only prosper under unity, and it is our duty as the custodians of football to fulfill this obligation.”
