The English top-flight boasts some of the most talented players from the continent that is sometimes referred to as ‘the mother of mankind’.

Premier League is widely considered first-class and most exciting of all European leagues. But what makes it so prominent, in our opinion, is its boasts broad diversity – the fact that it has players from almost every corner of the planet and every single continent.

Africa has supplied some of the finest footballers in the history of the game, and the continent has long been a breeding ground for talented players in world football.

In this piece, we list five African players that we consider to be the best in the Premier League, purely based on their current form. 2021-22 is almost halfway through, so poor form cannot be used as an excuse!

5. Thomas Partey

Injuries have been a stumbling block for Arsenal’s Thomas Partey this term, but he has rarely failed to make a mark whenever he has got onto the pitch.

Adept at protecting the backline, the Ghanaian also possesses the excellent ability to read the game and distort the opposition’s build-up play. Another quality of the 28-year-old that separates him from the other defensive midfielders is his knack for initiating attacks by playing lobbed passes and threading intricate through balls.

4. Wilfred Ndidi

One of the best compliments that can be paid to Wilfred Ndidi would be in saying that Leicester City simply are not the same team without him.

Proficient in making tackles, interceptions, blocks, and clearances, the Nigerian midfielder is one of the best ball-winners in the English top-flight.

3. Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane endured a slow start to the season, but he has managed to find his feet. Having contributed 9 goals and an assist so far, he remains an integral part of Liverpool’s deadly attack.

Blistering pace and the ability to easily cut open defenses are two of the deadliest weapon in the Senegalese’s arsenal. It can be expected from him to up a gear as the season enters into its business end.

2. Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez has found it hard to find a place in Pep Guardiola’s line-ups in the past few seasons but in this one, he’s been making a sound case for himself.

The Algerian attacker, who joined Manchester City two years after leading Leicester City to the league title against the odds, is mesmerizing with the ball at his feet and is equipped with exemplary dribbling skills.

Mahrez has notched up 10 goals and 3 assists across all competitions for Man City so far this season, and it can be safe to assume he can double his tally if he keeps his inspiring form up.

1. Mohamed Salah

Not only Mohamed Salah can be crowned as the current best African player in the Premier League, but also as the best player in the Premier League in general. If we’re being honest, he can also be considered the best player in the world at present.

Operating primarily from the right side of attack, the Egyptian forward has scored a remarkable 21 goals, in addition to 9 assists, in just 22 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League.
