Sports Innovation brings you the top five African players in the Premier League this season as the chase for the title will soon continue.

Over the years, the Premier League has had the honour of witnessing first-class African players compete amongst each other. In fact, we can now agree that the lack of African stars in the teams can have a huge impact on their managers. These players contribute far-fetched strength and control to the game in the English top-flight. The ongoing Africa Cup of Nations has made several clubs suffer due to the unavailability of their key African players.

Nevertheless, throughout the history of the Premier League, many players from this continent have displayed pure style and resistance. Renowned superstars such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez, and many more have seldom fought for rewards in the league. This year could not be any different. So, let’s take a look at the top five African players who make possess the abilities to change the game entirely.

5. Riyad Mahrez 🇩🇿

The three-time Premier League winner has could be considered as the most underrated player in the league. The Manchester City winger has often aided Pep Guardiola and his side in winning important fixtures. Moreover, the Algerian is capable of providing both goals and assists. Mahrez has managed to bag six goals and four assists in 16 appearances this season. And is also a big part of City’s title charge.

4. Sadio Mane 🇸🇳

The Senegal international is one of the key members of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool alongside Mohamed Salah. The 29-year-old has helped the Reds gain an advantage over several clubs in the Premier League table this campaign. With eight goals and an assist, Mane has proved himself yet again in the current season. In fact, he has as many goals as Cristiano Ronaldo, Heung-Min Son, and Michail Antonio, who are having a blast this year.

3. Emmanuel Dennis 🇳🇬

Even though haters had their doubts regarding the former Club Brugge star, he has proved a worthy signing for Watford. Dennis has grabbed a mindblowing eight goals and five assists for the Hornets for the season 21-2022. However, he sadly was not asked to play for Nigeria for their AFCON campaign in January. But, it would in turn add a positive effect for Watford in the Premier League. He might be the only player keeping them alive in the top-flight this season.

2. Edouard Mendy 🇸🇳

Since his arrival at Chelsea in 2020, the Senegalese has proved himself to stand ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal. The star goalkeeper kept nine clean sheets during the Blues’ Champions League winning campaign last year. In the current Premier League run, Mendy has made over 50 saves while recording a save percentage of 81. In addition, the African goal stopper has eight clean sheets to his name this season.

1. Mohamed Salah 🇪🇬

Who else? Many consider him the best African player at the moment and is no doubt the best in the Premier League right now. The Liverpool ace has bombarded 16 incredible goals until now and is chasing the Golden Boot wildly this campaign. Not only has he scored crucial goals, but also has helped Klopp’s men by slipping nine assists. And not surprising at all is the fact that the Egyptian has racked 37 goals across all competitions for Liverpool in 2021.
