AC Milan lost crucial ground in the Serie A title battle upon settling for a 1-1 draw against Sampdoria at San Siro.
In what was a must-win clash, Milan struggled to make an impact in the first half. The hosts lacked fluency in the attack and their only real chance came in a dubious penalty appeal. Sampdoria instead emerged as the more impressive side. But the visitors lacked a clinical edge inside the box to make their superiority count.

Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma pulled off fine saves from Manolo Gabbiadini and Morten Thorsby, while Mikkel Damsgaard wasted a brilliant opportunity to break the deadlock upon being sent clean through.
But a misplaced pass from Theo Hernandez in the second-half allowed Fabio Quagliarella to hit a first-time lob from 30 yards out over Donnarumma and into the back of the Milan goal, handing Sampdoria a crucial lead.

A second booking for Adrien Silva, however, left Sampdoria down to 10-men on the hour-mark and turned the game on its head.
Stefano Pioli responded with a double substitution by bringing on Sandro Tonali and Ante Rebic for Ismael Bennacer and Rade Krunic respectively as Milan launched a fightback in the final 30 minutes of the match.
Despite the numerical advantage, Hauge’s late goal was all that prevented the Rossoneri from defeat. Franck Kessie hit the post late on, but a 10-man Sampdoria held on for an impressive point at San Siro.
