The out of form Blues striker has scored just one goal in his last 16 games across all competitions.

Tammy Abraham insists Timo Werner is ‘working his socks off’ to rediscover his best form for Chelsea.

Despite a positive start to life at Stamford Bridge, the German has embarked on a dry streak in front of the goal. He has scored just once in his last 16 outings and missed a penalty in the club’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Luton Town on Saturday.

Questions have been raised over Chelsea’s €53m summer signing’s form, which was reportedly a factor behind Frank Lampard’s dismissal as manager. However, Abraham is hopeful Werner’s persistence will reap its rewards.

“I feel that to be a new player coming into the Premier League it is never easy,” the Blues striker told the club’s website.

“I have had my struggles last season where I went a couple of games without scoring myself, so I know the pressure that comes with it.

“You just have to keep getting into the right areas and putting yourself out there. One thing I love about Timo is that even in hard times he always works his socks off. He is a top player and it is always good to have those players around you.

“As a striker, you just have to keep making the runs and getting yourself in those positions. Eventually it will come for you.”

Werner hopes to get another chance at ending his barren run in Chelsea’s Premier League match against Wolves on Wednesday.
