The Germany international threw away a huge opportunity to get his side back in the game which led to dire consequences.

Thomas Muller is “hurt” over his miss in Germany’s Euro 2020 Round of 16 clash with England on Tuesday.

England needlessly gave the ball away inside the final ten minutes of the match, and Muller, after being played by Kai Havertz, suddenly found himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.

It was a golden opportunity for Germany to level the scoreline after having just gone down to Raheem Sterling’s strike. The goal could have also changed the final outcome as it would’ve worked wonders in raising the Germans’ morale.

Muller only had to Pickford to beat but his right-footed effort went wide of the goal, leaving the supporters in distress and disbelief.

“There it was, that one moment which will stick in your memory, which keeps you awake at night,” the Bayern Munich man said in an Instagram post.

“That moment you work, train and live for as a football player. That moment when it is up to you to bring your team back into a tight knockout match and deliver joy to a whole football nation.

“It hurts so bad that I had the chance and I missed it. It hurts for the whole team, my team-mates and our coach who trusted me to be there.

“But it hurts the most for all the German fans out there who supported us at the Euros despite the difficult circumstances.”
