As per multiple reports, Memphis Depay is set to leave Olympique Lyon during the January transfer window. A bidding war is coming.

Memphis Depay was one of Barcelona’s most coveted players during the most recent transfer window in the summer. He wasn’t even that expensive as Lyon was asking €25 million for his transfer. But the Catalan club’s institutional problems prevented them from making any proper offers for the player. In the end, Memphis wasn’t able to fulfill his dream to play at FC Barcelona but he remained hopeful for the next transfer window.

The Dutch winger ends his contract with Lyon in the summer of 2022, which means he will be able to negotiate a free transfer during the summer of 2021. The French club doesn’t want this to happen, which is why they made a last-minute decision. Memphis will be sold during the current winter transfer window to the highest bidder.

Barcelona gets competition for Depay.

As we all know, FC Barcelona was the club that wanted Memphis Depay the most. But recent developments in his price drop has attracted other major clubs to a bidding war. According to Sport, Juventus is very interested in signing the player from Lyon and they can offer a lot more than Barcelona. OL already set the price at €5 million for Memphis but they won’t shy away from a better offer coming from any club in the world.

Despite the good relationship they have with Barcelona, money is more important in a deal like this one. If Barcelona doesn’t come up with a better offer before deadline day on January 31, Lyon will have no option but to sell the player to the highest bidder.
