After realizing there was foul play, one of Barcelona’s official candidates for the election decided to step down from the race in tears today.

As one of the strongest FC Barcelona candidates for the club’s presidency, Emili Rousaud had strong hopes to get elected later this year. However, the signature-gathering got some interesting results when they were double-checked. According to all his working team, Rousaud’s signatures had at least 500 with irregularities. This means that he didn’t get past the 2,000 signatures needed to become a real candidate.

Earlier today, Rousaud denounced foul play from his adversaries and decided to step down from his candidacy. In his speech, he also pointed out that his staff rejected to merge with any other candidate because they felt sharing their plans was completely unfair. As such, FC Barcelona will only present three final candidates for the club’s presidency tomorrow. Joan Laporta will race for the job against Victor Font and Toni Freixa.

Rousaud had a better economic plan for Barcelona.

According to Rousaud himself, his team had the most compelling economic plan to save FC Barcelona from a terrible fate. The Catalan club has suffered from having terrible finances over the last decade and Rousaud had a plan in place that could help it. However, his stepping down from the race completely shuts down any chances of getting to know these plans.

In a press conference reported by COPE, Rousaud said: “Yesterday was a day of incredible dignity. To my surprise, the majority decision from my team was to not accept any type of merging with any other candidate. This happened because we believe our economic and sporting projects are the best. We won’t tolerate foul play, which is why we decided to withdraw our candidacy and not merge. Our decision is to stay out of the race.”
