After a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League, the PSV Eindhoven coach shared his thoughts on one of the club’s star performers.
PSV manager Peter Bosz praised Arsenal star Kai Havertz’s intelligence and technical skills after the 1-1 Champions League draw.
On Tuesday, Havertz faced Bosz, his former Bayer Leverkusen coach, in the Netherlands. The German played 89 minutes as an attacking midfielder, before coming off for Emile Smith-Rowe. He didn’t score, but still earned praise from his old boss, who thinks he is playing in his best position at Arsenal.
“He’s an outstanding, outstanding player,” Bosz said about Havertz after the match in Eindhoven.
“When I got to Leverkusen he played as a right winger, but I saw him as an offensive midfield player. So I put him in a system, more or less, with one holding midfielder and two offensive midfield players, [Julian] Brandt was the other one. And he played outstanding there.
“In the end, I put him as a No.9. Rudi Voller didn’t agree with me but I think he can play there also, that’s what he did at Chelsea.
“Now he’s playing more again as an offensive midfield player. He can play in those positions but he can also play from the side.
“That means he’s a really intelligent player, technically he’s almost perfect for such a tall player, he can score goals, and he is more than only for one position. But I believe where he is playing now is his best position.”
Under Bosz at Leverkusen, Havertz made 64 appearances. He scored 29 goals and dished out 10 assists.
The former Chelsea man will now prepare for Arsenal’s Premier League game against Brighton on Sunday.
