The Citizens are aiming to defend their European title after a historic season.

Rio Ferdinand believes only Real Madrid and Bayern Munich can prevent Manchester City from winning back-to-back Champions League titles.

Winning the Champions League in Istanbul was Man City’s final step in winning their historic treble last season. After making a few major changes to their squad in the summer transfer window, Pep Guardiola’s side have returned to the tournament to defend the title.

The Citizens have found a perfect start to the new Champions League season, winning all four of their group-stage games so far. However, Ferdinand believes they could still be challenged by two other European powerhouses.

“Real Madrid have obviously got that relationship with this tournament and they’ve got some fantastic players, Jude Bellingham in fine form. They’d be one you’d mention,” the Manchester United legend told TNT Sports.

“I think the forward line, the front line especially at Bayern Munich could cause any team in this competition problems, especially with Harry Kane scoring at the rate that he is.”

Following their easy victory over Young Boys in the UCL, City will return to the Premier League, where they take on Chelsea and Liverpool in their next two matches.
