The PSG star was reportedly slammed by Messi for his poor form.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha has dismissed claims of a heated exchange between him and Lionel Messi.
On Wednesday, a report from L’Equipe claimed Messi criticized his teammate after a poor performance in training, saying: “Not only you are weak, but you’re hurting me.”
After his arrival from Porto in 2022, Vitinha spent a difficult debut season at PSG. The Portugal international came close to leaving the club but ended up securing a starting spot in PSG’s midfield line.
Vitinha, who seems to have reached his best form under Luis Enrique this season, has now reacted to reports about Messi’s criticism.
“I don’t usually comment on anything about the press, but this time I have to say it. It is completely false that this happened,” Vitinha tweeted.
Messi came under pressure from the French media several times during his two-season spell at Parc des Princes. The Parisians hoped the Argentine icon would finally lead them to the Champions League. But even the mighty attacking trio of Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe wasn’t enough to get PSG past the quarter-finals.
Under Enrique, however, PSG have made a solid start to the new Champions League season. Vitinha became he Man of the Match when the French giants dominated Borussia Dortmund in a 2-0 victory on Tuesday.
