The Parisians started their Champions League campaign with a promising win over Dortmund.

Paris Saint-German defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in their Champions League match on Tuesday. Luis Enrique’s side bounced back from their underwhelming form in Ligue 1 to claim a crucial UCL victory.

What happened?

Paris Saint-Germain established their dominance over the possession early on but struggled to create enough goalscoring chances before the break.

The hosts, however, didn’t have to wait for too long to score the opener in the second period. Niklas Sule’s handball convinced the referee to award PSG a penalty. Kylian Mbappe then scored his first UCL goal of the season by converting the spot kick with a powerful low shot into the bottom-left corner of the net.

Dortmund lacked enough attacking edge to push for the equalizer while PSG remained in control of the game. Enrique’s side finally secured their win when Achraf Hakimi made it 2-0 after a spectacular piece of buildup play. The hosts had a few more chances to increase their lead but failed to convert them.

PSG vs Dortmund: Man of the Match

Hakimi’s masterclass display on the right flank was crucial to PSG’s victory. In addition to his contribution in defence, the Morocco international constantly pushed forward to create chances. He also scored his side’s second goal after a brilliant one-two with Vitinha.
