The winger contradicted the Man Utd manager’s comments about his performance in training after missing the Arsenal game.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag dropped Jadon Sancho at the weekend, sparking rumors about the winger’s future at the club.
Will he be forced to seek a move to Saudi Arabia, or will he spend the rest of the season on the bench?
Rio Ferdinand has weighed in on the situation, and he didn’t mince his words. The United legend said Sancho may have to pack his bags and head to Saudi Arabia. This may be his only option before the transfer window closes on September 7th.
“There is only one way this ends right now. Or two ways, actually,” Ferdinand said on Vibe with Five.
“There is only one window open and that is Saudi. Or you’re on the bench or not in the squad for the rest of the season.”
Ferdinand reacts to Sancho’s comments
Sancho has made three appearances from the bench in the Premier League this season. He only has 76 minutes worth of game time to his name.
Tensions appear to be running high after Ten Hag left him out of the squad for Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal. The manager said he didn’t select Sancho due to his performance in training, which prompted the player to respond on social media.
In an astonishing statement, Sancho claimed he had been made a ‘scapegoat’ and that there had been no issues whatsoever with his training.
“I’d be in the office saying what the f**k are you talking about, how dare you come out and question my professionalism when I’ve trained as well as anyone this week, what are you talking about,” Ferdinand said.
“I’d be giving it to him.”
Going into the situation in more detail, Ferdinand suggested Ten Hag must have some evidence to back his claims about Sancho. But he also thinks the winger wouldn’t have spoken out so quickly unless there was some truth to what he was saying.
“He [Ten Hag] must have something in his back pocket, some evidence, to say that was s**t, that was poor,” Ferdinand continued.
“But I can’t envisage Jadon… he doesn’t speak, he doesn’t do interviews. You don’t see him out and about talking… so for him to come out so quickly, there needs to be some truth to what he is saying.
“You have got to back it up. He almost needs one of the players to say, ‘I thought you trained alright to be honest.’”
