The goal-shy Blues had laid eyes on signing Brennan Johnson to boost their attack, but ultimately pulled out.

Tottenham are in pole position to sign Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson after Chelsea dropped their interest.

Word has it that Chelsea had their sights set on Johnson as a solution to their attacking woes. However, upon doing some digging, they ultimately decided to bow out of the race.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea pulled out for TWO reasons.

The first one was Forest’s asking price for Johnson. The Reds value the 22-year-old attacker at over £50 million, a figure Chelsea felt was too steep.

Secondly, Chelsea suspect Johnson would favor joining Tottenham if the north London club strikes an agreement with Nottingham.

So, with these two facts in mind, Chelsea decided to look elsewhere.

This decision has put Tottenham in the hot seat in the race for Johnson. They’re not wasting time either. Manager Ange Postecoglou has already given the green light for the club to complete a deal.

As Richarlison is yet to score this season, Postecoglou wants more attacking options. The only question is will Tottenham cough up the cash for Johnson?

With around €100 million from Harry Kane’s sale to Bayern Munich burning a hole in their pocket, Spurs just might be ready to make it rain.
