Bayern completed a £100m transfer to bring the England captain to Allianz Arena.

Harry Kane has opened up on his decision to join Bayern Munich ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The former Tottenham star had a real prospect of becoming the Premier League’s all-time top-scorer, being 47 goals behind Alan Shearer. However, Bayern managed to convince both Kane and Tottenham to end their partnership after a long transfer saga.

Speaking to Football Daily on his decision to choose Bayern as his next club, Kane said: “A lot of people talk about the trophies and why I came here, but ultimately it was to improve.

“To feel a new pressure of having to win titles every year, having to go far in the Champions League.”

Having scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Tottenham, Kane left Spurs as a Premier League legend. However, he felt a move to Bayern could help him reach his peak form.

He added: “I never want to retire and feel like I could have done more or I could have pushed myself a bit more.

“That was a big part of my decision to come here. I felt to improve and to get better I had to be playing at the highest level.”

Kane made his debut for Bayern Munich in their 3-0 defeat against Leipzig in the German Supercup. The Bavarians will face Werder Bremen in their opening Bundesliga match of the season on Friday.
