The Blues are a goalkeeper down after Kepa Arrizabalaga’s loan move to Real Madrid.

Kepa Arrizabalaga completed a season-long loan move to Real Madrid on Monday.

The 28-year-old will help fill the void left by No.1 goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who suffered a possible season-ending ACL injury last week.

This leaves Chelsea in a bit of a predicament. They only have one established goalkeeper left in their ranks – so will they keep faith with what they have, or sign someone else?

Chelsea’s three remaining goalkeepers are Robert Sanchez, Marcus Bettinelli, and Lucas Bergstrom.

Out of the three of them, Sanchez is the only one with vast Premier League experience. Bettinelli has only played seven games in the English league. It doesn’t help that he is also out injured. Meanwhile, Bergstrom hasn’t played for the first team yet. The 20-year-old only got his first taste of senior football last season on loan at Peterborough United in League One.

If Chelsea do go down the route of signing a new shot-stopper, two options may already be on the table.

These are Valencia star Giorgi Mamardashvili and Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund. Both keepers were targets earlier in the summer, and according to the Evening Standard, Chelsea may revisit their interest in the pair.

The Blues have already forked out £25 million to sign Sanchez from Brighton this summer.

But given the fact Chelsea have agreed to pay Brighton a further £115 million for midfielder Moises Caicedo, and have no European games this season, they decide to stick with what they have…for now.
