Ahead of every new Premier League campaign, people will often look to the bookmakers to see who the runners and riders will be.
And it’s not a bad guide to use because sports betting operators are usually there or thereabouts when it comes to who will mount a challenge for the title.
Manchester City
Manchester City, as you will expect, are the favourites to win the title this season with every bookmaker, and there are several reasons for this. They’re the defending champions for a start and were the best team in the league last season. If they had stayed the same in terms of personnel, maybe they wouldn’t have been such a heavy favourite. But, they’ve added Erling Haaland, one of the top strikers around, to their ranks. So, now they have a striker, something they have been missing since Sergio Aguero departed.
Liverpool
Liverpool pushed Man City all the way last season, right up until the final day. So, because it is often the Anfield outfit battling out with City for honours, it makes sense that with most bookmakers, they’re second favourites to win the title. But, there are a couple of things to look at where Jurgen Klopp’s side are concerned. For example, Sadio Mane has left for Bayern Munich. And will his departure have a significant impact, or can Luis Diaz and new arrival Darwin Nunez make them stronger?
Chelsea
It potentially depends on which bookmaker you use when it comes to the odds for Chelsea and Spurs winning the title next season. But nowadays, because smartphones are not just for mobile casino games, they’re for sports betting, so punters will be able to fund the bookmaker offering the best odds for either team. In Chelsea’s case, yes, they’ve added a couple of players, but they’ve also lost a couple, with more outgoings expected. So, it’s unclear as to whether Thomas Tuchel’s side will be any stronger in the new campaign, leaving the door open for others to jump ahead of them.
Spurs
Spurs could very well be the dark horses in the title race next season. They’ve improved dramatically since Antonio Conte arrived. But Fabio Paratici’s work in helping to bring new players to the club has been integral too. Spurs have enjoyed an excellent summer, with several good signings and more to come. If they’re not top two, what Spurs should be able to do is really push for at least third place. And that would be some achievement after the disappointments of recent times. But, getting a big price on Spurs may be the way to go if someone wants to chance their arm at netting a decent return.
It’s pretty straightforward with the bookmakers and their views on who is in the running for the Premier League title this coming season. But this is football, and anything can happen, as we saw with Leicester City in 2015/16.
